Happy 96th Birthday to Sue's dad, Bill Keane!! That is remarkable.
Can't wait to get home and take you out to Wolf's Diner for breakfast, Pop.
This morning I got up and decided to check my routes for the next few days since I'm scheduled to start tomorrow. Well, good thing I did. As it turns out there was a lot of rain in the cascades during the last week and that resulted in a rockslide that took out a section of road along the Washington Pass. The road is impassable and will be under construction for several weeks. That section of road is on my Day 3 route so I had to find a workaround. Unfortunately there are only 2 ways to get to the other side of the mountain: Go over it or go around it. The best option finally became to rent a Uhaul truck and haul my bike around the mountain. So I rented a truck and will load it up tomorrow morning and drive to my end-of-day 3 destination. An inauspicious start for sure.
After renting the truck Matt, Ana, Sue and I spent the day together. We went to a street fair in Anacortes and then got on the ferry to go to Friday Harbor and Lopez Island. We will definitely have to return to these islands again when we have more time and with a car so we can really explore the area. It's gorgeous!!

So lucky that you were proactive and checked before starting your route! Much better to discover those issues ahead of time than when you're already on the road.
ReplyDeleteDad had a lovely weekend. Meghan made a delicious strawberry-rhubarb cake, the kids were here to celebrate, and the pool was already getting plenty of use! We also got Dad an adult bib for mealtimes, and he absolutely loves it. 😊
Hope the rest of your ride goes smoothly, with good weather and a clear path to follow.
I'm glad Pop had a nice birthday. Sorry we missed it.
DeleteGood thing you checked and didn't find out the hard way!
ReplyDeleteThere's only one road over the mountain so I would have had to go back for 2 days and start over. That would have been a real bummer.
