June 16
Woo hoo! An easy day. From Libby to Kalispell is 93 miles and that was just too far to do in 1 day so I had to split it into two. Today was 45 miles to Logan State Park Campground. I failed to check the weather and found out mid-day that the wind was going to be a factor. I should have left earlier in the morning.
I made it to my campground around 2pm and the wind was blowing at over 20 MPH and kept blowing until about 10:30pm. Kind of sounds like a hurricane when you're sitting in your tent and the trees all around are bending and blowing in the wind. I put in my earplugs and sleep mask and just tried to rest. I met these nice people (in the picture below) at the campsite. They sold their home in Big Sur, California, bought a beautiful (and large) RV and now travel the country full time. They just got the dog you see in the picture. It's an Australian Herding dog, also know as a Blue Healer. It is a cross between a Dingo and a Collie. It was a beautiful dog and looked like it had boundless energy!!
I learned my lesson and checked the weather for tomorrow. The wind is supposed to be fairly light until about noon and then start increasing to about 15MPH. So I plan on getting up around 5am and hitting the road by 6am to cover most of my miles before it gets too windy.

Looks like a puppy. Hope you got out early ahead of the wind🤞
ReplyDeleteThat was a puppy. Just a few months old. I will address the wind in my next post.
ReplyDeleteYou’re doing great! Serious mileage. Holy cow! I understand how loud that peacock was a few days ago. There was one on the farm in Italy where I stayed. He bellowed every time we walked past him. Such a beautiful bird with a hideous squawk. I guess it keeps predators away.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the scenery. Looks beautiful. Eat more!!!
I learned my lesson. I will stay well nourished from now on!!
